Burley D’Lite review

B Loves: A well designed and well thought through pushchair that’s for serious joggers and runners, yet doesn’t miss out on important features for both parent and child.

If you want to take your child around with you on your bike, you have two choices; a bike seat attachment or a trailer. A trailer can be especially useful with younger children, as there is no need for them to be able to sit and they can also nap on the go.

The D’Lite is suitable for one or two children and its shape means that they are not squashed, as it curves out at shoulder height. The suspension can be adjusted so that as they get heavier, they continue to get a smooth ride.

It is covered with water resistant polyester to keep your little ones dry and the zips are also water resistant. When it’s not raining, roll up the clear plastic window and your children are still protected by a mesh screen – no swallowing flies – and there’s also an adjustable sun shade that slides up or down to keep a low-angled sun out of their eyes. Windows are UPF 30 sun resistant.

Inside there’s room for two children and each takes the advantage of the SITT seat (see the Burley Solstice review) with its harness that pops up out of the way as you put your child in. The harness is adjustable and at the head area there is soft mesh so that your child’s head is held in a hammock-like area to be comfortable for naps. The seat can recline, too. There are mesh pockets for your children to store drinks, snacks and toys right next to them at the sides of the seat and at the back of the trailer is a commodious area to store your own luggage, toys, whatever you need for a day out. Lay the seat completely flat and you get a large area that will take lots of shopping or luggage – which is great for travel, especially camping and festivals.

The D’Lite has a handle bar that means that when the seat is uncoupled from the bike, it can be pushed around as a pushchair – again, ideal for festivals, plus there’s a bracket for you to attach a light to, so you can see and be seen. The bar also acts as a roll bar when the seat is attached to the bike, in a folded forward positon.

It can be folded to allow you to store it or pop it into the boot of your car and the wheels pop off to make for a more compact area.

To use as a stroller, pull the handle bar to the back. There is a good brake that slides across at the back. It can also be used a three wheel running stroller with an additional wheel.

It has a weight capacity of 45kg and comes in two highly visible colours with reflective panels, you’ll easily be seen by other road users to keep your children safe.
